Fredericksburg National Battlefield Park (FNBP), 10:00 AM
(Chatham opens at 9:00AM). Directions: From I-95, take exit
133BUS-17BUS S/Warrenton to Chatham Heights Rd to Chatham
Lane.
Departure Time: 10:30 AM
Tour Duration: Tour expected to end approx. 3
PM in downtown Fredericksburg
Cost: Free to All
Mode of Transportation: Carpooling.
Consolidation at Chatham will take place in order to
minimize caravan size. Individuals may arrange carpool
transportation from NVA to Chatham on their own.
Uniform of the Day: Dress for fall weather,
wear comfortable shoes
Lunch: Lunch break is targeted for around
12:00 PM (several sub shops are
nearby - everyone is on their own to bring or purchase their
lunch)
Subject Matter: The Army of the Potomac’s
crossing of the Rappahannock River and the street fighting
in Fredericksburg, December 1862
Walking distance: A little over 2 miles total
Tour Stops include:
1. Chatham (model pontoon bridge, and Union
artillery position for the bombardment of the city)
2. Upper Pontoon Crossing, Michigan Alley (7th Michigan
story)
3. Intersection of Hawke Street and Caroline Street (20th
Massachusetts story)
4. Welford House (19th Massachusetts story)
5. Ridge along Princess Anne Street (where Lane Brandon
made a stand and realized he was facing a friend from his
Harvard Days)
6. Jane Beale house (her story)
7. Fanny White house (her story)
8. Middle Pontoon (crossing site)
